Role: Lead Spatial and Experiential Designer at Grande Experiences

Location: The LUME, Melbourne

Brief: Design the spatial and experiential elements for Connection, an immersive digital art exhibition exploring human connection across cultures, landscapes, and shared experience. The exhibition was to blend large-scale projections with physical installations, honouring Indigenous cultural practices and introducing The LUME's first-ever physical art gallery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designed Welcome to Country installation featuring a large faceted LED screen, smoke ceremony simulation with LED lighting and projections, and scenic rock formations echoing Indigenous stone circle formations.
  • Integrated educational touchpoint showcasing native plants used by the Wurundjeri people in smoke ceremonies.
  • Created Emily's Room infinity installation surrounding visitors with 52 original Emily Kame Kngwarreye paintings, with mirrored ceiling and floor to create an all-encompassing, meditative environment.
  • Designed Mirri CafĂ© spatial elements including cut and layered white walls with embedded linear motifs and integrated lighting.
  • Planned and curated The LUME's first physical art gallery, arranging original artworks, interpretive panels, and thematic elements to complement the digital exhibition.

Outcome: Delivered a multi-sensory journey blending art, technology, and storytelling across diverse cultural themes. The exhibition won the Time Out Melbourne Arts and Culture Award and People's Choice Award, and received critical acclaim from ArtsHub. The art gallery integration established a new precedent for The LUME's exhibition format, deepening how audiences engage with both physical and digital works.
