Design Intent
With the brief and brand identity in mind, I designed three playful, abstract forms, drawing inspiration from musical symbolism and exploring how 2D and 3D shapes could be expressed through aluminum extrusions. Using the triangle, musical stave, and play/pause/stop symbols as key references, I collaborated with art director Marsha Golemac to bring the Denfair installation to life.
One of the main challenges was engineering a custom joiner for four channels to meet at an apex, requiring an iterative process of designing and prototyping multiple versions to achieve the perfect result. Additionally, coordinating internal and external teams during Melbourne's lockdown presented significant logistical hurdles, which we successfully navigated to complete the project.

The Symphony lighting sculptures for Denfair 2020 had a significant impact, capturing attention for their innovative blend of music-inspired design and sculptural form. The installation not only resonated with audiences but also earned a 2020 LIT Lighting Design Award in the Exhibition Booth Lighting category, recognizing the creativity and technical execution of the project. Additionally, the sculptures were featured in Frame Magazine's web article "10 examples of sculptural lighting for a variety of environments," further highlighting their versatility and artistic appeal across different settings. The recognition underscored the project's success in pushing the boundaries of lighting design.
